After house jobs at Stirling and Stobhill I completed GP vocational training at SGH, gaining the MRCGP in 1974.  Became principal in Kilwinning Medical Practice in 1974 and remained there for 33 years.  In addition was police surgeon for Strathclyde Police based in Saltcoats, held Medical Officer appointments at Ravenspark Hospital and Cumbrae Lodge, Irvine, was GP trainer and latterly clinical tutor to Glasgow University.

Retired in August 2007 and indulge myself in tennis, golf, cycling gardening, fine wines, countryside walking and bird photography.

Married Edith in 1971 and we have three sons, Andrew, David and Alastair and six grandchildren, Finn, Rosie, Thomas, Lucy, Hamish and Angus. Edith is retired from being Principal Teacher of Biology at Kilwinning Academy and is now becoming an accomplished painter with some successful sales and commissions.  She is also past president of Troon Art Club.
